Cross Country Race In Yucaipa

So, we did our first cross country 5km in Yucaipa today. Fun, but a very challenging course. Lots of ups and downs, crossing bridges, cobble stone trails, shady sandy trails- made for a competitive race. All of the See Mommy Runners kicked butt today. Bobbi was the lone girl doing the 10km but missed the turnaround spot- so finished a 3.4 mile course in under 23 minutes. Megan, Katy and Rachel finished within 20 seconds of each other. Amber was brave enough to push a BOB stroller on this course. Makes it even tougher! We stacked the top 3 "official" places for women!

Great job TEAM! Next race, Fontana Days Half and the TIN MAN Triathlon!!

ST GEORGE HERE WE COME!!!!!!! Bobbi, Megan and Rachel will start officially training for that the week of June 12.

Welcome New Members

I'm very excited to say that my little group of three has jumped up to 7! We now have Bobbi, Amber, Megan, Dee Ann, Teresa, Katy, Jen, and me! How awesome is it to work out with a great group of women?!

With this large group, it's been fun planning the upcoming events. We are all for sure doing some form of the Run through Redlands (5km, 10km, or half marathon). Next half is on June 4th for the Fontana Days Half Marathon. And a full marathons is in the works. We would really like to do St. George Marathon, however, it's on a lottery system- so we don't know yet if we can do it.

The weekly workouts are as follows:
Mondays: Speed Work
Wednesdays: Long Distance Run
Fridays: Easy
Saturdays: Long.

News, Contests, and more

What's new in Redlands...hum, Rachel ran the Redlands Triathlon and her results are here. 5km time is holding steady at 22:36... We need to restart our original plan of intervals on Mondays, tempo runs on Wednesdays and Fridays. Jen is recovering from pneumonia and Teresa sprained her knee in soccer practice. This week we should be back on track with our MWF 6AM runs. Next event??
Contests galore on the Fitness for Mommies site. Check them out! Bondiband is giving away 5 bands to hold your hair back while running. They work great for cycling, too. Simbree is giving away a large tin of Energy bites. These are really tasty, wholesome energy food. Julie B Fit is giving away a complete set of DVD's to one lucky reader. Simply post a comment to be entered to win.
On the home front, my oldest son, age 4, decided to jump off our bed the other day into the square post. We spent 8 hours getting him stitched up.

Highland Run 5km Race Results

The 25th Annual Highland Run happened today. Great run, good volunteer support, although the turnout was low due to the weather report- 80% chance of rain, thunderstorms and wind. We all had fun racing our first race of the year together.

Congratulations to Teresa Gibbons she ran her first 10km today! Teresa finished in 1:08! This was her first 10km and her longest run before this was 4 miles! Great way to get back in shape after having twin baby boys one year ago!

Great Job Teresa.

Rachel did the 5km and her results are here.

Coach Al Lyman is one of the premier running and cycling coaches in the business. He wrote the plans for Graeme Street's Cyclo-Core programs which is designed for cycling. He's competed in many marathons, triathlons, etc.. Accomplished athlete and coach and a really nice guy.

I interviewed him today for my Fitness for Mommies blog. You can read it here.

I highly recommend his training programs!

Time to replace those combression bras

Recently, I read an article in Women's Health magazine about how compression bras do not STOP the bounce when running. The study talked about how between running or walking in a compression bra- you are still going to bounce. Bounce is BAD! According to this study, bouncing causes irreversible tears- which will lead to sagging breasts! I am 36 now and it's suddenly very important to me not to lose what I've got!
I called all the big name companies about what bra they recommend and the bottom line is the CW-X Firm Hold bra which is sold by Activa or Road Runner Sports. Athleta recommended the Glamorise Bra and Title Nine did not reply.

You can read more about it here.
